MODULE 2 - PERFORMING COMMON WINDOWS TASKS

SYNOPSIS:
Presents basic Windows XP concepts for novice PC users and provides a solid foundation on which to build more advanced Windows skills. Discusses Windows features such as My Computer and Explorer as well as file management, accessories, printers and Help.

PREREQUISITES:
New Windows users.

Half Day

THIS MODULE INCLUDES:

Using My Computer
Working with folders; viewing the resources; changing the view; viewing the hard drive and a diskette; starting a program.

Using the Windows Explorer
Using the Windows Explorer; viewing your computer; opening objects; creating a folder; copying, moving and deleting files and folders.

Using Files/Folders/Shortcuts
Creating, renaming, moving, and copying folders; sending folders to diskette; creating, renaming, moving, and copying files; sending files to diskette; creating and renaming shortcuts; configuring the recycle bin; deleting files; retrieving deleted objects; emptying the recycle bin.

Changing the Time Settings
Changing the date, time, and time zone; setting daylight savings time.

Using Accessories
Using the calculator; performing calculations; using the clipboard viewer and the Notepad; saving file in Notepad; using Paint and WordPad; opening a document; adding, editing, and formatting text; saving a file.

Using Printers
Specifying a default printer; printing with shortcut menus, and with drag and drop; viewing the print queue; changing the order of print jobs; canceling a print job; purging the print queue

Using Help
Using help, the contents sheet, the index sheet, and the find sheet; accessing Help in a dialog box; copying text from a help topic; printing a help topic.
